Objective:

Throw new light on the stellar constituents of the MW. Develop a coordinated strategy to optimally utilise Gaia data to gain new insights into how stars form, testing the scenario that most stars form in clusters; explore the frontiers of stellar astrophysics; improve our understanding of stellar models through analysis of high quality observational HR diagrams where distances, stellar absolute luminosities, and effective temperatures are available from Gaia. Ages will be compared with those obtained from asteroseismology. This includes the study of stellar clusters and the field population

Tasks:

  • WGT2a: Stellar atmospheres and spectroscopy.
  • WGT2b: Stellar models and ages, 3D modelling of stellar interiors; modelling microscopic and macroscopic processes in stars.
  • WGT2c: Stellar clusters and stars with asteroseismic constraints as tests of the stellar evolution models, including standard candles of known distance such as Cepheids and RR Lyrae stars.
